Having a roommate can be a hit or miss. You all either end up getting along or you despise each other. Sometimes there is the elusive "I hardly ever see them" or "we keep to ourselves" roommate situation, but that tends to also be rare. Usually, it's either you end up all getting along or you don't. When you don't, oh boy, things can get really really messy. Just like when this roommate decided that the utilities money was all for him and not… well, the utilities. 

 

Who knows what kind of intense delusion entitlement this is, but it is strong. A couple was living with this roommate and was wondering why the old roommate had moved out so abruptly before they moved in. Well, they found out the hard way when they discovered that the money they were giving this roommate to help pay utilities was actually not going to that. It was going to whatever the roommate wanted to do with it. And when confronted, he doubled down and said that it was his money. All $1,100 of it over the past few months. Like, what?!

  • So me (28F) and my partner (28M) moved into a room that my friend (25M) had open and ready when his old roommate moved out.

  • Luckily, their landlord was more logically than this delulu roomie, and after reporting and providing the proof of this roommates insane behavior and basically theft, he was finally evicted. Sometimes the good guys really do prevail in real life!

  • Landlord has said she will probably have him kicked out since he violated other terms on the lease but with no set date So yeah.

  • EDIT: forgot to mention this dude does not partake in any help with cleaning. And expects us to respect his privacy but wants access to go through our room to do laundry (our room has access to the outside washer) and when we said no he would when we were not home.

  • OZFOX42 The best way to pay utility bills is online as the funds go directly to the providers. More secure. The roommate sounds like an egomaniac/AH - he should have been evicted before you moved in. After all this went down, I hope you're no longer friends with him.

  • Susiequeue79129586 I had old roommates with stupid logic as well. They tried to control where my bf and I worked cos they said uber and DoorDash weren't real jobs (worked them during our off season job) and I asked them would they take my rent money if I was a stripper or a prostitute if that's how I made my money and they told me no money is money but we had to get "real jobs" to make "real money"...like wtf... make it make sense!

  • DexRei This happened to my brother when he moved to my town. He paid his rent/bills money to the main flatmate, who handled all that. 4 months in, the landlord shows up one day with the cops and gives him and the 3rd flatmate the boot (main wasn't home at the time). They were obviously confused, landlord said he'd sent arrears notices mo ths back, and eviction notice, and even a court summons. All of these were hidden from brother and 3rd by the main, who it turns out had been using their bills
